John Carter Brown Library - Peru Collection

The John Carter Brown Library has one of the five largest collections of early Peruviana in the world. It is not just the number of Peruvian imprints of the colonial, independence, and early national periods held by the John Carter Brown Library that is important, however, but the diversity of those materials and in a great many instances, their singularity - being only known copies. The subjects range from ecclesiastical matters, to government papers, to indigenous language studies, and impor...

There are two Lima 1616 versions of this work that have been confused with one another. This version (B616.T689a1) includes the reprint of the Seville, 1604 edition of the "Catecismo en la lengua española y aymara del Piru." The other version (B616.T689a2) does not. They also differ in signatures and foliation. Although Medina claims to have seen "otros dos ejemplares ..., pero ambos sin dicho Catecismo," apparently he confused the one version (B616.T689a1) with the other...
